Hand of Hamsa - "Padamakara"
Polymer Clay, Gemstone and Sterling Silver Pendant

"Padamakara" means "with a lotus in hand" in the ancient Sanskrit language.
(backside of pendant is hand painted with a lotus design).

About the Hamsa: The Hamsa amulet is popular throughout North Africa, and commonly used in
jewelry and wall hangings. The Hand (Khamsa), particularly the open right hand, is a sign of
protection that also represents blessings, power, and strength, and is seen as potent in deflecting
the evil eye.
It is also known as the hand of Fatima, so named to commemorate Muhammad's
daughter Fatima Zahra. Christians call it the hand of Mary, for the mother of Jesus.
Following its incorporation into Jewish tradition via its widespread use in the Islamic
world, it was also renamed the hand of Miriam for Miriam, sister of Moses.

About the Lotus: Throughout many cultures over time, the Lotus has been a powerful image and a
spiritual symbol. In Hindu, Buddhist and Egyptian religions, the lotus is considered a sacred
flower. Among it's many meanings and significance, the lotus is a symbol of "spontaneous"
generation, and so it also represents divine birth, spiritual
development and creation itself.

I made this pendant with polymer clay. I hand crafted and hand painted it and the finished piece
was then given a clear coat to seal in the paint. The backside is also hand painted with a beautiful
design with all the Chakra colors represented. I also added stones in the colors of the Chakra.
Starting at the top:  Carnelian, Garnet, Amethyst, Labradorite, Peridot, and another Garnet.
